Claim your profileWendell Shepherd Jr. is a budding and dedicated journalist who has spent years adding value and growing the audience of the professional newsrooms in which he’s worked. His writing work is centered on high school sports in Memphis, Tennessee with The Commercial Appeal. Previously, Wendell covered Mizzou football and high school football for the Columbia Missourian where Wendell reported on-site at SEC football games, the Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic and the NFL Draft. He produced unique feature stories and project ideas that he shared with a growing audience online, earning over 1.6 million impressions on X in December of 2023. As an extension of the beat reporter role, he appeared weekly on the Tiger Kickoff Show and connected with an audience on YouTube. Outside of writing which Wendell also did as a digital news intern at NBC 5, he also produced for the station’s sports team, building rundowns, editing videos and writing scripts. Experience in the field included work at Texas Rangers baseball games, Dallas Cowboys preseason games and Big 12 Football media days. Connecting with and helping others is a big part of Wendell’s focus at the illustrious Missouri School of Journalism where he served as an ambassador, working with prospective students, families and university faculty.
