Claim your profileTony Geftos is a 3x Emmy award-winning journalist recognized by the Ohio Associated Press as "Best Reporter, Small Market," placing 1st in the 2016 contest year, which was announced in May of 2017. Tony started on the air at WTVG-TV in June of 2000 and currently co-anchors Action News at 4, a weekday hourlong newscast. He is the only anchor at the station to perform duties of a Multi-Media Journalist on the same day as anchoring. Tony is responsible for shooting, editing, writing, voicing, appearing on camera, writing web copy, posting to Facebook three times per day, and executing his own live shots at 5, 6, and 11 PM. Additionally, Tony is responsible for researching and pitching two story ideas per day, which he then shoots, edits, and writes for the anchors in future newscasts. Tony has been a regular on the anchor desk since 2011. On weekend mornings, Tony and Tina led the newscast to Emmy nominations five years in a row, winning "Best Weekend Newscast Market 41+" for broadcast year 2016 in June of 2017. During his time at 13abc, Tony is honored to have received an individual Lower Great Lakes Regional Emmy for "Best Breaking News 2014." It was for his reporting when a smoldering house fire suddenly reignited during a live newscast and Tony knocked on doors of nearby homes to alert neighbors. Tony has also garnered several statewide awards from the Ohio Associated Press, including two-time 1st Place awards for "Best Reporter" in 2016, 2011; "Best Broadcast Writing" 2016, 2015; And "Best Breaking News" in 2012, 2011. Additionally, Tony is a licensed drone pilot, aiding his photography skills. He received AP photography awards in 2022 and 2023. In 2013, Tony was recognized as a regional leader, honored to become one of Toledo's "20 Under 40." Tony has served on the board for the Ohio Associated Press Media Editors since 2011. In 2017, he became President-Elect of the chapter. He has also served as a board member for Adopt America Network and on the Board of Governors for the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, Lower Great Lakes Chapter. Additionally, Tony is an adjunct instructor at The University of Toledo, teaching Television Production, Writing for Media and Communication Practices and Principles at a collegiate level.
