Claim your profileI see myself with two central parts to the task at hand. One, is to inform the transport industry about what is available to them, technically, politically and in business terms, and examine the pros and cons of each. Second, is to counter the negativism with which the road transport industry is viewed by accentuating its positives. Working in the road transport industry since 1977, tarting off as a driver in the UK, with two spells as an owner/driver and as an employed driver hauling all of the Ps, pigs, paint, paper, pharmaceuticals and potatoes. I was an owner/driver twice and on both occasions managed to sell the truck, before having to sell my house. In my last role in the UK, I was transporting refrigerated goods between the UK, Spain and Italy. On arriving in Australia, I drove trucks for another variety of road transport applications, covering the Eastern States. However, in 2002 a lucky break saw me start as Technical Editor at ATN Magazine, reviewing and test driving trucks and reporting on the latest technical developments in trucking. Later as a Managing Editor role icovering the group’s road transport titles. In 2007, I began working for Prime Mover, a business magazine for the trucking industry in Australia, before taking over as Editor of Diesel Magazine in 2013. I then developed the magazine’s print and online status to become a characterful voice for the trucking industry, driving issues and working towards improved safety and productivity outcomes. The magazine also profiled both operators, trucks, trailers and workshops from all over Australia, plus featuring regular reports from correspondents in the USA and the Europe. Diesel magazine has now changed its name to PowerTorque, integrating the acquired title into the the Prime Creative stable, while keeping the down-to-earth campaigning style of the original Diesel magazine intact under the new format. In 2014, I became an Associate Member of the International Truck of the Year Jury. Later, working with Dave McCoid from NZ Trucking, we created the Truck of the Year Australasia Award, first awarded in 2023. As of September 2024, I have stepped back from full time magazine editing to a role as Technical Editor and feature writer for PowerTorque, and contributor to some overseas trucking titles. Awards: Australian Truck Association’s Trucking Industry Awards 2015 - The Industry Technical Achievement Award. NatRoad Awards 2024 - The Ted Pickering Memorial Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Australian Road Transport Industry.
