Claim your profileSince Feb. 2019, I have been lead reporter at Health News Illinois, a trade publication focused on all-things healthcare in the state. Responsibilities include coverage of federal and state policies and legislation that affect the healthcare industry, as well as business transactions and innovations in the sector. Aside from coverage, I have also moderated panels with lawmakers and leaders in the industry to discuss issues as varied as long-term care funding reform to the future of telehealth. From 2012-2019, I reported on local politics and police for the Herald & Review in Decatur, Ill. The job included coverage of state and federal elections, policymakers and their connections with affluent fundraisers, and the impact state laws had on local residents. I worked as the statehouse intern at the Daily Herald, the third-largest circulated newspaper in Illinois, during the spring 2012 General Assembly session in Springfield. I focused on state politics that impacts more than 100,000 readers in the Chicago suburbs, specifically teacher pensions, cigarette tax increases and potential gambling expansion throughout the state. For two and a half years, I worked multiple positions at the Daily Egyptian, the student newspaper at Southern Illinois University Carbondale and the second-largest newspaper in the southern Illinois region. I started out as a sports reporter, but went on to become editor of all campus news, as well as editor for the arts and entertainment section of the newspaper. I covered topics as varied as tennis, to the office of Southern Illinois University President Glenn Poshard and Southern Illinois University Carbondale Chancellor Rita Cheng. I have also done some freelance work, including some stringer work featured on the National Collegiate Athletic Association website and in Wired Magazine. Additionally, I have done work with the Associated Press to update poll numbers for each election since Nov. 2012. Along with reporting, I have expansive experience with photojournalism and videography. My photos have earned statewide recognition in Illinois and I'm affluent in Adobe Photoshop and Premiere Elements, as well as Windows Movie Maker.
