Claim your profileRiki Altman-Yee is a freelance writer, editor, proofreader, expert interviewer and all-around people person with a background in sales, marketing and employee training. She graduated from Northwestern's Medill School of Journalism in 2003 with a master's in magazine publishing. Her thesis project was Bite Magazine, a publication aimed toward "edgy epicureans." This endeavor led her to become a major foodie before the term was en vogue. Eager to escape Chicago's frigid temperatures in 2004, she moved to Miami and sold advertising for Florida International Magazine before establishing her own firm, Wordstar Ink. It has kept her busy writing for The New York Times, Modern Luxury Miami magazine and myriad other publications under the Modern Luxury umbrella, Forbes, New Times (a Village Voice newspaper) and pretty much anyone else who pays. [Meaning, she also does lots of Web copy, press releases, marketing materials and such.] Riki also authored "Miami Shop!" and edited a golf manual entitled "Keep Your Swing." Full disclosure: she's an expert shopper, but her golfing skills are nil. Admittedly Riki is not the best cook, either, but she got a kick out of blogging about her dating and dining experiences for New Times, where she authored a series of "Love Bites" columns. Check them out.Running her own business for nearly two decades has taught her countless transferable, systems-oriented and people skills, ranging from business writing to virtual team participation. Her diverse portfolio reflects her ability to write highly creative copy in a compelling way. She has a keen understanding that the client's client is typically the person she needs to reach. Her clients would likely say she is responsible, dependable, enthusiastic, optimistic and collaborative. She will assert she has a penchant for a good laugh, too. Nowadays she focuses most of her time writing for luxury publications but is always eager to expand her mind. Otherwise she can be found playing Iron Chef with her doting hubby, snuggling with her sheepadoodle, discovering new hobbies with friends, and raving about the benefits of electric cars, solar energy and protein shakes that taste like actual food.
