Claim your profileI am the lead breaking news reporter for The Seattle Times. In 2020, I was among the first local reporters to cover the spread of coronavirus in the U.S., starting at Life Care Center of Kirkland, the site of the nation's first known outbreak. As a core member of the Times' COVID-19 team, I focused on aging adults, long-term care and caregiving. I was the recipient of two aging-focused fellowships for her work. I was a member of the Seattle Times reporting team that won the 2015 Pulitzer for breaking news for its coverage of the deadly landslide in Oso, Wash., that killed 43 people. In 2020 I created and coordinated the Journalist Furlough Fund, which raised $100,000 for journalists financially impacted by the pandemic. I grew up in Kansas City -- the Kansas side, but I could see Missouri from my house.
