I live in New York City. I joined Reason in 1993 (!), while I was finishing up my Ph.D. in American literature at SUNY-Buffalo. Over the years at Reason, I've been everything from an assistant editor to managing editor to editor in chief of the print mag, the video platform, and the website. I am a two-time finalist for National Magazine Awards, a former columnist for Time and The Daily Beast, and a regular presence on a variety of cable and radio talk shows and podcasts. Prior to grad school and Reason, I worked as a journalist at a wide variety of newspapers, movie mags, music mags, and teen mags. Most days, I kinda-sorta wished I'd stay on the entertainment or arts beat. So do most of my readers.
