I cover consumer apps with Bloomberg News in New York and am passionate about dissecting complicated technologies and issues that arise from the everyday use of tech. I write about the companies behind the apps we use on a daily basis — Uber, Lyft, Airbnb, Tinder, Hinge — and the marketplaces and cultures these technological intermediaries have created. If I’ve messaged you, it’s because I’m hoping to learn about the forces that have so much influence on everyday consumer behavior and by extension the economics of labor, housing, travel, and more. Before covering the tech beat, I had moved to NYC from my home city of Hong Kong to work on Bloomberg’s news automation efforts for corporate earnings and US elections. In HK, I spent three years covering politics and economy, contributing to award-winning coverage of the tumultuous periods of the historic pro-democracy protests, the Chinese government’s crackdown and the Covid pandemic. I also reported on the Greater China economy during the 2018 US-China trade war, delivering exclusive analysis on the impact of tariffs ahead of competitors.
