He won the 2016 Outstanding Journalist Award from the Nevada Press Association for his all-around coverage at the Pahrump Valley Times.He covers sports business and transportation for the Las Vegas Review-Journal. His coverage areas include all things transportation and the business and operations side of Allegiant Stadium, the Raiders, the Golden Knights and other sports happenings in the region. He formerly covered gaming, business, technology, energy, interstate travel and the Raiders pending move to Las Vegas while at the Las Vegas Sun. In addition to his news reporting, Akers has covered an array of sports for various publications. He’s done a large portion of his sports coverage in boxing. Mick is a Boxing Writers Association of America member and International Boxing Hall of Fame voter. Mick also covered high school sports in the southern Nevada area.
