Claim your profileMelissa Macaya is an Emmy award-winning digital news leader, producer and editor with more than 15 years of experience leading global news teams and coverage of live breaking news, US politics, Latin America and the US Hispanic community. Born and raised in Venezuela, she has extensive journalism experience on the local, national and international level producing and editing news content in English and Spanish across broadcast and digital platforms as a journalist at CNN, The Washington Post, CNN en Español, NBC News and Univision. Melissa currently serves as Senior Live News Editor at CNN Digital, where she manages and oversees live digital coverage of Washington, political breaking news and elections across CNN’s global digital platforms. She manages her team’s live coverage of the White House, Congress, 2024 campaign, Trump trials, Supreme Court and other DC agencies. Before returning to CNN, Melissa served as the Morning Coverage Editor for live video breaking news at The Washington Post. She planned, produced and oversaw The Post's coverage of live events streaming across platforms. She spearheaded daily live video coverage of Washington, and major political news events such as the 2020 campaign and Trump impeachment inquiry. Prior to joining the Post, she was a show and digital producer for CNN’s Latin American network, CNN en Español. She oversaw the network’s political digital coverage from the DC bureau of the 2016 presidential election from the newsroom and field and also covered Latin America. Melissa is a digital-savvy news leader with experience managing teams in global newsrooms under tight deadlines while optimizing content to engage new digital audiences during live breaking news. She has executed live streaming, video distribution and social media strategies for major news events, including four US presidential elections and high-profile interviews with Latin American presidents. She is passionate about telling engaging and creative stories on innovative journalism platforms while uplifting diverse voices through digital storytelling. She holds a Master’s degree in journalism from Georgetown University and is an adjunct professor in the program. She serves as Region 3 Director of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists (NAHJ), an organization that aims to increase the representation and influence of Hispanics in the news industry. She has produced journalism projects in Spain, United States, Cuba, Peru, Israel, and Argentina. Her work has appeared on CNN, CNN.com, The Washington Post, NBC News, Msnbc.com and Univision.
