Claim your profileI've always had a deep passion for creative writing, telling stories and informing my peers about the world. In college I studied Print Journalism and English to expand on my skill set to prepare me for my future endeavors. Since 2009 I've been writing and editing local news for television websites; first in Lawton, Oklahoma, in Oklahoma City, in Sacramento, and currently in Honolulu. At my first station in Lawton, I was solely responsible for writing and editing web content. I was also tasked with creating and maintaining a social media presence, just as the industry started to embrace the medium. My career eventually led me to the OKC metro, where I would soon be apart of an experienced and talented team of web journalists. For years I honed my skills under the tutelage of three other writers, who shared my passion for multimedia journalism. I was also introduced to a highly competitive media market, where having a competent web strategy is crucial to staying on top. In 2015, our website, news9.com, was named website of the year by the Oklahoma Association of Broadcasters (OAB). Over six years, the web team changed and expanded. I became the senior writer on staff. The team consisted of eight full-time writers (myself included), each of whom I trained personally. My career (and my heart) eventually led me to Sacramento in May 2018. I again worked for a large web team (12 total) in a highly compartmentalized structure, although my role as a writer/editor has pretty much stayed the same. In 2021 I accepted a position as digital content manager at KITV4 in Honolulu. My goals for the future remain the same — I want to continue to hone my managerial skills, train future journalists and writers on the importance of the digital frontier, continue to develop affective web strategies and dominate one of the nation's top media markets. I'm also interested in continuing my creative writing and dabbling in the area of freelance writing.
