Experienced journalist, advisor, global editorial leader and media executive. I help established and startup media and tech companies come up with and execute on their strategy. I serve on the boards of World.Minds, a Zurich-based leadership company, and Partners Group in Asia. I write and speak on global affairs. Over the past decade in the top editorial seats at POLITICO, I was the founding editor of its start-up in Europe and led its American cousin through a transformative growth spurt and the biggest acquisition ever in digital news media. I set up, quickly expanded and ran B-to-C and B-to-B editorial operations on both sides of the Atlantic. Two years into its existence, POLITICO Europe became the most influential publication in the EU, according to the ComRes/Burson-Marsteller poll. Four years in, the company -- a joint venture between POLTICO US and Axel Springer -- achieved profitability. In the U.S., where I moved in 2018 to run its editorial operations, we achieved ambitious business goals, including revenue growth above 20% and income margins of 30%. I grew the reach and ambition of the U.S. newsroom, building new teams focused on national security, sustainability and coverate of the states. In those five years, POLITICO produced some of the most impactful journalism it has ever done, including breaking the story on frozen Ukrainian military aid that led to Trump’s first impeachment and the scoop (of the century, some say) on the Supreme Court’s draft opinion overturning Roe v Wade. I came to POLITICO after an 17-year career at the Wall Street Journal as a reporter, columnist and an editor. I began my journalism career reporting on the former Soviet Union in the aftermath of the fall of the Berlin Wall. I speak French, Polish, Russian and some Ukrainian, and I've lived in Vilnius, Kyiv, Brussels, Paris and New York -- and am currently based in Washington.
