Claim your profileMarta Jewson is an award-winning education reporter at The Lens, New Orleans' first investigative nonprofit newsroom. She's covered New Orleans schools for 15 years through the nation's largest education reform experiment. Jewson was a founding member of the outlet's Charter School Reporting Corps. The CSRC covered 40+ independent school boards and was instrumental in holding new charter schools accountable to sunshine laws during the rapid expansion of charter schools in the city. Jewson won the New Orleans Press Club's Alex Waller Memorial Award in 2016, recognizing the best among all writing award-winners. Jewson won first place in the investigative category for her stories about how the board governing Lusher Charter School sidestepped the state's Open Meetings Law when dealing with a teachers' union drive.
