Claim your profileMy life as a journalist began in 2006 when I worked my first newspaper job in college as a photographer for the North Texas Daily. As soon as I stepped into the newsroom, I knew this was the place for me. Organized chaos was everywhere, and I knew I would fit right in. I ended up working for the Daily for the last two years of my college career, holding various titles such as, Staff Writer, Multimedia/Photojournalist and Photo Editor. During my time at the Daily I covered events like NASCAR, Hurricane Gustov, wildfires and community events. I also worked at the CW33 in Dallas as a News Intern. After graduating from the University of North Texas with a degree in journalism in Dec. of 2008, I worked as a Freelance Photographer for the McClatchy Company. And in May of 2009 I accepted a position as a Producer at a television station, News9, in Oklahoma City. I felt that by accepting the job I could learn more about video while being able to keep my writing skills up to par. After working at News9 for 3 months I was moved to the morning show and maintained a 12 a.m. to 9 a.m. schedule for 6 months. Although I learned a tremendous amount about writing, video and web journalism at News9, I decided that I love print, and being out in the action, too much to work in television and accepted a Staff Photographer/Videographer position at the Norman Transcript, where I am currently employed. At the Transcript I have learned more than I could ever hope about being a journalist. I have covered everything from OU sports to tornadoes, wildfires and festivals galore. For the past four years, I have been working to improve the multimedia on the newspaper's website by creating audio slideshows and multimedia packages. To view some of my photo please visit:http://kbp0035.wix.com/kylephillips#!
