Claim your profileAs a Staff Reporter at The Wall Street Journal, I write about environmental issues, politics, regional economics and a range of other topics. I write features for the WSJ’s front-page A-hed, and cover breaking news, from hurricanes to elections. I’m based in Pittsburgh and most of my coverage extends across the Midwest. I have written about organized labor, the coal industry, the Flint water crisis, the Upper Big Branch Mine disaster, the Jerry Sandusky and Bill Cosby trials, and many other issues. I’m the author of “Desperate: An Epic Battle for Clean Water and Justice in Appalachia,” (Scribner) due out Oct. 5, 2021. Described as “Erin Brockovich meets Dark Waters,” the book tells the story of a lawyer and people in Mingo County, West Virginia, who fought for clean drinking water in a place where generations of coal miners and their families have been denied justice at the hands of powerful coal interests since the days of the Hatfield-McCoy feud.
