I'm seeking to help our audience understand bipolar disorder (type 1, specifically) from an informed expert's standpoint. In particular, I'm looking to break down the Chicago rapper Kanye West's (now known as Ye) recent apology ad in the Wall Street Journal. In short, he expressed remorse for being racist, antisemitic, and patently offensive during a manic stretch. If you have time to read the ad, it would help you to frame my interview request, which follows. I'd like to either confirm or refute Kanye's apology details, or at the very least, assist readers with understanding the intricacies of the disorder, especially bipolar type 1, which Ye is diagnosed with. My goal is to provide context for people who have limited exposure to mental health discussions. Full disclosure: I was diagnosed as bipolar type 1 in 2016.
