I cover federal crime in Dallas, Texas, and have written extensively about international drug trafficking, Mexican drug cartels, gun trafficking and firearms regulation, civil forfeiture, complex financial fraud schemes, health care and real estate fraud, and violent political extremists. I have also covered city and county governments during my career and reported on sophisticated public corruption conspiracies. I have special knowledge of how to use public records to tell stories and uncover government abuses and violations of the public trust. An underlying theme of my most recent work is exposing unfairness and inequities in the criminal justice system. I have been featured in numerous radio spots to speak about my articles, and I have appeared in television programs and documentaries as a criminal justice expert. I am a multiple recipient of the Stephen Philbin Award for excellence in legal reporting, and I've also won awards for investigative journalism.
