A 2022 graduate from the University of Iowa, with a degree in journalism and mass communications and a minor in international relations, Heston cares deeply about social and political issues, on both a local and international scale. At the Inter Lake, Heston has reported on relaxed DUI laws at a state level, the rise of fentanyl in local Montana communities, the ins-and-outs of the 2023 Legislature, the 2024 election cycle, climate change and drought affecting local economies and more. Prior to joining the Daily Inter Lake, Heston was a News21 Fellow at Arizona State University, where she, alongside other top journalism students around the country, completed an investigation into police transparency on a national scale. She also served as a photographer and eventual photo editor at her college newspaper, the Daily Iowan.
