I am an American historian, professor, author, founder of an online magazine, public speaker, historical consultant, and writer who is passionate about the role that history can play in revitalizing communities, fostering a more civil society, and strengthening democratic institutions. I have written or edited six books. My 2011 book *Was America Founded as a Christian Nation: A Historical Introduction* was one of three finalists for the George Washington Book Prize, given each year by Mount Vernon to the best book on the American Revolution. My most recent book is *Believe Me: The Evangelical Road to Donald Trump*. I am the Executive Editor of CURRENT (Currentpub.com), an online platform of opinion and commentary which launched in April 2021. I have lectured a widely at institutions such as Duke University, Bucknell University, Gettysburg College, University of Mary Washington, Oxford University (U.K.),Wheaton College (IL), Grove City College, George Washington's Mount Vernon, University of Tennessee, University of Pennsylvania, University of Notre Dame, Woodberry Forest School, Georgetown University, Colonial Williamsburg, University of Minnesota, Northwestern College, Fort Ticonderoga, Syracuse University, Mount Vernon Nazarene University, Mount St. Mary's University, Eastern University, Fraunces Tavern Museum, Valparaiso University, the Historical Society of Pennsylvania, and the David Library of the American Revolution.
