Previously, Fortson was a general assignment reporter/multimedia journalist for WAVE 3 News, the NBC affiliate in Louisville, KY. She began her career at WMDT in Salisbury, Md where she reported, anchored and produced. Fortson majored in journalism and minored in political science at Howard University. During her time at Howard, she was awarded the White House Correspondents Scholarship. She also interned with WJLA ABC 7 News, CBS News, Fox News Channel, WHUR 96.3FM, and freelanced for MTVU.
