I graduated from Portland State University with a BFA in Creative Writing in June 2023, focusing on magazine writing and literary quarterlies. The Charles Snowden Excellence in Journalism internship program afforded me the opportunity to work at Street Roots, where I became a Zuhl Fellow, then signed on as a full time reporter beginning 2024. In 2022 I won two awards in nonfiction for a piece on an important local climate justice issue. The same year, I joined the school monthly magazine Pacific Sentinel as a contributing writer, as well as the Vanguard weekly newspaper as a contributing writer and copyeditor, using AP Stylebook. I became associate editor of the Pacific Sentinel in September 2022, and remained in that role until graduation. In 2009, I started a record label to release the music that our community was creating. The record label gave me hands on experience writing the story of the community through various forms of media. This work also included tour management, event booking, and long-term project management. These skills transferred well into volunteer work with the local climate organization 350PDX, tenants rights advocacy non-profit Portland Tenants United, and further volunteer work with local progressive political campaigns.
