Claim your profileI’m a staff photographer at the Austin American-Statesman where, since 2003, I have documented life in one of the most dynamic cities in America. In my more than 30-year career, I have covered devastating weather events, mass shootings, homelessness, a presidential inauguration, and major sports events including Olympic Games and Super Bowls. I’ve photographed many of the biggest news stories in Austin over the last two decades but my greatest joy is photographing moments in the lives of ordinary people. Community photojournalism is my passion. I’m an eight-time National Press Photographers Association Regional Photographer of the Year and a four-time winner of the Headliners Foundation of Texas Star Photojournalist of the Year award. My work has won numerous state and national awards including Pictures of the Year International and NPPA Best of Photojournalism. Born in Houston and raised in Bryan, Texas, I earned a Bachelor's Degree in Journalism from Texas A&M University. I previously worked as a staff photographer at the Corpus Christi Caller-Times and the Colorado Springs Gazette. My wife, Kari, and I are on a multiyear adventure to visit every U.S. national park.
