Claim your profileI’m an experienced sports writer with a knack for digging up unheralded stories about college athletics, especially on the business side. I am the sports editor for the Lawrence Journal-World newspaper and KUsports.com, our website devoted to University of Kansas athletics. In this capacity, I serve as the beat writer for KU football and men's basketball, covering the nationally prominent teams while also coordinating our daily coverage of KU women's basketball, volleyball, soccer and more, as well as local high school sports.I previously worked at The Bakersfield Californian, where I covered Cal State Bakersfield (NCAA Division I) and Bakersfield College (CCCAA). I also assisted in preps, hockey and auto racing coverage, and contributed entertainment columns to Bakersfield Life magazine. As part of my master's program at Arizona State, I covered football and sports business for the digital arm of Cronkite News at Arizona PBS; received multimedia training in audio, video and photography; and honed my data collection and visualization skills to add analytical angles to my work. My stories for Cronkite News appeared in publications such as The Arizona Republic, Indian Country Today, the Phoenix Business Journal and USA Today's Golfweek.I have a comprehensive background in sports business, from my undergraduate studies and internships in the field to my work as a writer for the Donald W. Reynolds National Center for Business Journalism. This has helped me develop an understanding of the structures that underpin sports at the high school, collegiate and professional levels, which I've consistently applied in my time as a beat writer.
