I left The Virginian-Pilot in 2018 after almost 40 years as a reporter and columnist to explore a new career writing for a university. I write sports columns, features and news stories for ODU's athletics Web site (odusports.com). Also write for our alumni magazine. I enjoy writing stories about great people and also tell the story of ODU, which is a wonderful academic institution. ODU is a national leader in educating first generation college students, or the first in their families to attend college. It should be for the focus of most colleges and universities. I love telling the stories of students who overcome obstacles to succeed at ODU. I love my job, but am always open to new challenges especially in Berlin, Germany. I am learning the German language and intend to move to Berlin in the next few years.
