I am a proud Korean American and a public radio journalist with a decade's worth of experience in the news industry. After coming from a primarily newsprint background, I found myself wanting to grow and challenge myself in delivering content on different platforms. When I stepped into a sound booth for the first time and read a script, that's when I knew I found where I was meant to be on my journey. For the last nine years I've been embedded in southern Minnesota, covering issues ranging from agriculture to changing rural identity. I am a versatile journalist with skills in not just writing but also audio production, video journalism and photojournalism. Being a one-person bureau in southwest Minnesota is a challenge, but one I relish as I cover 18 counties for Minnesota Public Radio and bring a vital service to our rural communities beyond the Twin Cities. I'm a self-starter. Independent. Resourceful and curious about the world around me. I can't imagine my life without journalism in it. There hasn't been a challenge that I've encountered that I wasn't willing to overcome. I find creative solutions in telling a compelling and nuanced story that represents the complexities of the society we live in. I entered public radio just a few months before the COVID-19 pandemic, and I learned on-the-go. I've covered and witnessed some of the most challenging and historical moments of our generation. It solidified why I love what I do. As a journalist, my passion is for getting to the heart of what matters. I'm not afraid of grit and I love collaborating with fellow colleagues on projects that make people think. I'm always interested in solutions-based journalism, and also uplifting underrepresented communities in our coverage. If there's a way to tell the story, then I'm game. Let's figure it out together.
