While at The Union Democrat in Sonora, CA, I won California News Publishers Association finalist awards in the writing and enterprise categories. And in college, I covered the 2014 Isla Vista mass shooting as a student journalist. I am also featured as a journalist interview on ABC 20/20 and the documentary Missing 411. I grew up in Orange County and attended the University of California, Santa Barbara, where I double majored in History and English. I previously worked as a private school humanities teacher and at Entrepreneur Magazine before working full-time and for four years at The Union Democrat, a daily newspaper covering Tuolumne and Calaveras Counties.
