Claim your profileEugene is the chief Washington correspondent at Transport Topics where he covers Congress and national politics, reports on intermodal infrastructure initiatives, freight connectivity projects and supply chain resilience and cybersecurity. He also co-hosts the weekly Capitol Agenda segment on SiriusXM’s Road Dog Trucking Show (ch. 146). In 2023, Eugene co-authored “From Roadeo to TDC: A history of the National Truck Driving Championships and National Step Van Driving Championships (First Edition)” published by American Trucking Associations. He co-produces the “Road to NTDC” online series and podcast. And he is writing a book that further examines the National Truck Driving Championships' dynamism. In 2025, "Road to NTDC" ranked 58th on FeedSpot’s 100 Best Trucking Podcasts. Eugene has won journalism awards given specifically for coverage of commercial transportation policy and national politics. He earned a B.A. from Seton Hall University and an M.S. from Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism. At Seton Hall, he managed news coverage for The Setonian under the supervision of Prof. Amy Kiste Nyberg. At Columbia, he studied at the Toni Stabile Center for Investigative Journalism with Prof. Sheila Coronel. His first articles were published in The HuskieView at Matawan Regional High School. He has participated on panels hosted by the Society of Professional Journalists, the Coalition for America's Gateways and Trade Corridors, the National Press Club, the Road Gang, the Transportation Research Board, the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials, the Western States Trucking Association and the Society of Environmental Journalists. Eugene covered politics at HuffPost and transportation policy at E&E News. His newsroom experience includes CQ Roll Call, The Arizona Republic, the Daily Record, The Hudson Reporter and the Home News Tribune. A two-time Scripps Howard fellow, his features have been published in The New York Times, USA Today, the Asbury Park Press, National Journal, Government Executive and he contributed to The Almanac of American Politics. A frequent guest on national radio and cable television programs, Eugene is an adjunct professor of journalism at George Mason University.
