Claim your profile"There are 24 usable hours in every day."This is the motto I choose to not only work by, but also live my life by. Whether it's days, nights, weekends or holidays, every moment you have is an opportunity to show the best possible version of yourself.I got into the news business by taking a part-time job as a newsroom assistant. In this position, I began inhaling the ins and the outs of the business by talking with peers and co-workers, some who had been involved in news for decades and others who were just starting out. As a production assistant, I learned how the newscast works. As a technical director, I sharpened my multi-tasking skills and started developing my management skills. As the executive producer, I used my talents as a creative writer to not only bring content to the newscasts, but also teach reporters and talent how to discover and develop their own creative voice. As the assistant news director, I built solid relationships with the staff that has been based on mutual respect and strong management.I believe the workplace should be a positive environment with strong leadership at its base. Employees should be able to come to work and feel as if they are working together as a team to create powerful and engaging newscasts. Management should be critical, but also encouraging. It's important in this field, which is full of so much passion, to be supportive and lead the team with a clear sense of direction. When it comes to news, sometimes, you're going to need all of those 24 hours.
