Claim your profileI am currently the Local Government Reporter at the Cap Times in Madison, Wisconsin where I was born and raised. I graduated from La Follette High School in 2017 as Class Vice President, served as the Editor in Chief of The Lance Newspaper, and worked as a Teen Editor at Simpson Street Free Press. I went on to earn my Bachelor of Arts in Reporting from the School of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Wisconsin-Madison where I was a Center for Academic Excellence Scholar, and staff member and Managing Editor of The Black Voice, an online-student led publication. My academic mentors include Professor Susan Robinson and Director/Professor Kathleen Culver at SJMC. My undergraduate involvement spans across the Black History Month Planning Committee, Residence Life, and Study Abroad in Botswana. My internship/early professional experience includes the NBC Weekend Today Show, the CBS Evening News with Norah O’Donnell, and Wisconsin Watch. I also served as the Student Representative on the Board of Directors of the National Association of Black Journalists from 2019-2021. After graduating in 2021, I attended Columbia University in the City of New York and earned a Master of Arts in Politics from the Journalism School under the guidance of Dean Jelani Cobb. My master's thesis focused on the role mutual aid networks played in eliminating food insecurity during the Covid-19 pandemic. I am on track to obtain my PhD in Political Science or Political Communications years down the line, and I hope to expand on themes of the media’s role in political behavior, or something involving AI and social media's role in journalism. My areas of interest include political theory, race, Black American history, culinary, and human interest storytelling. I enjoy spending time in nature, listening to my vinyl records collection, reading, creating comfort food recipes, designing my life on Pinterest, and playing the Sims.
