Claim your profileI have been a journalist for more than 25 years, working both as a reporter and managing a newsroom as an editor. I am passionate about journalism and its role in our democracy. Before coming to EdSource to cover teachers and teaching, as well as other education news, I spent more than a decade as the education reporter at the Sacramento Bee. Prior to that, I was a bureau chief for the Sacramento Bee. I am the recipient of numerous awards including the 2017 James Madison Freedom of Information Award from the Society of Professional Journalism, and both a first-place honor for investigative reporting from The Inland Press Association and the McClatchy President’s Award in 2016. I began my career at age 17 as a part-time proofreader for the Lodi News-Sentinel. I earned a B.A. from California State University, Sacramento.
