Claim your profileI’m an innovative global editor and media executive, who as Editor-In-Chief of USA Today transitioned the newspaper into the fourth-largest digital news group in the U.S. I’m an author of a political thriller called Unregulated Militia, published in 2025. I helped build early Internet News pioneer CBS MarketWatch as top editor and sell it to Dow Jones. I managed the turnaround and sale of TheStreet, Inc. as CEO. I also have been president of the World Editor’s Forum, a global advisory board to the world’s major news publishers. I’m an award-winning columnist who still tries to write once or twice a week. My passion is working with young journalists to help them discover the power and importance of our industry and to create our future leaders. I got my BSJ and MSJ from Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism. I’ve worked in Chicago, Boston, New York, London, San Francisco, and Washington D.C. I’ve managed news bureaus in more than a dozen countries and reported myself from four continents. I’m most proud of my reporting in Europe for Bloomberg News in the 1990s, which included coverage of the Northern Irish peace process to end The Troubles, and the lead up to the euro single currency. As a manager, my newsrooms have won many awards, including Loeb Awards, IRE Awards, Online Journalism Awards, and SABEW Awards, among others. As a CEO, I ran a public company and doubled the stock before a successful exit. The company at its peak had five businesses on three continents, including an operation in Southeast India. My true love remains with journalism and all it stands for in maintaining our freedom and helping societies grow. The near future, with climate change and immigration so important around the world, will see enormous opportunities for journalists and I’m working on how to develop those for our industry right now.
