She was previously the Los Angeles bureau chief as well as a reporter for the paper's Metro section, focusing on narrative storytelling in New York. She spent more than a decade with the Los Angeles Times, where she helped investigate a county sheriff’s secret list of problem officers and how they obstructed justice. She was on the team that investigated corruption in Bell, Calif. — coverage that won the 2011 Pulitzer Prize for public service. Ms. Knoll was the lead writer on many big news stories, including the San Bernardino terrorist attack, the Oakland warehouse fire, the California wildfires and the Brussels bombings. She has covered criminal and civil courts and was a regional reporter who wrote features about the San Gabriel Valley and the Westside of Los Angeles.
