Claim your profileI'm a journalist, podcast host and editor who specializes in documenting the evolution of contemporary family life, as well as the human elements of the working world. I've been writing and editing on parenting topics for nearly 20 years. I'm the editor and publisher of thenewfamily.com, a website that examines and celebrates modern family life. The site is best known for its award-winning blog series called "I bet we can find 1,000 ways to be a family," or the 1,000 Families Project, as well as The New Family Podcast, for which I am the host. I'm also a CBC journalist. In that role I explore the intricacies of the labour market, particularly as they relate to the lived experiences of Canadians. I write a parenting column for the Toronto Star called Modern Family. As editor-in-chief of Canadian Family magazine, I was responsible for the magazine's content and direction, reader engagement, editorial/art staff and budget, as well as promoting the brand on television, radio and social media. Prior to this I was digital director of House & Home Media, where I was in charge of editorial and sponsored content on Houseandhome.com, Maisonetdemeure.com, the industry-leading monthly interactive iPad edition and mobile apps. Before joining House & Home, I was the editor of two Toronto Star websites, healthzone.ca and parentcentral.ca, which I helped launch. Additionally, I was responsible for parenting- and relationships-themed content across all platforms, including print. I was an early proponent of social media in the Star newsroom.Earlier I was senior editor during the relaunch of Canadian Family magazine, held various staff-editing jobs at Today's Parent and I've been a newspaper reporter for The Province in Vancouver among others. I bring a unique mix of digital, magazine and newspaper skills to my work. I marry knowledge of my subject specialties with good general news sense, a grounding in print journalism and a fascination with where this is all heading.
