Claim your profileI cover homelessness for The San Diego Union-Tribune, my hometown paper.I spent several years covering the New Jersey attorney general's office, state police and prison system for The Star-Ledger and NJ.com, where I was previously on the data and investigations team.I've also covered the Missouri Statehouse for The Associated Press, reported abroad for Public Radio International, filmed for The Wall Street Journal, hosted Investigative Reporters and Editors' podcast, contributed reporting to The New Yorker and drawn for Poynter.During the three years I lived in Central America, I regularly wrote travel pieces for Revue, one of the largest English-language magazines in the region, and wrote a column for the human rights magazine Entremundos. I have filmed with UNICEF, World Vision and other non-profits throughout Africa, the Americas and the Caribbean. During the 2014 Ebola outbreak in West Africa, I filmed inside an Ebola Treatment Unit in Liberia with Heart to Heart International.I earned a master's in journalism at the University of Missouri, and a literature degree from Point Loma Nazarene University.
