Claim your profileBilal Qureshi is a multimedia journalist with an interest in the intersection of politics, history, and culture. Since 2008 he has been a full-time producer and occasional reporter for National Public Radio's flagship news magazine, All Things Considered. He has reported for NPR from New York, London, Cairo, Berlin, and Islamabad. Bilal was born in Kohat, Pakistan and grew up in Richmond, Virginia. He graduated with high distinction from the University of Virginia in 2004 with a double major in Political and Social Thought and Asian and Middle Eastern Studies. He received his Masters degree in Journalism from Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism in 2007, where his web-based thesis was awarded the Webby Award for Student Website of the Year. Bilal has previously worked as a business strategist for online initiatives at the Atlantic Media Company, the parent company of The Atlantic and National Journal magazines. He has also been a copywriter for the English-language newspaper The Daily Times in Lahore, Pakistan. Bilal began his career at NPR in 2007 as a Kroc Fellow. His reporting has been featured across the network on Morning Edition, All Things Considered, Weekend Edition, and Day to Day. In 2011, Bilal was awarded the prestigious Robert Bosch Fellowship for young transatlantic leaders. He studied media, culture and new German identity during his one year residency in Berlin and Munich. He also developed and produced a new radio magazine about international life in the German capital entitled Berlin Stories. Bilal speaks Urdu, Hindi, Punjabi, German, Spanish and introductory Arabic.
