Claim your profileI cover military and veterans issues for KPBS News in San Diego, a public media station. I previously covered the same beat at the San Diego Union-Tribune. I graduated from San Diego State University in 2018 with a degree Journalism and a minor in Sociology. I was the editor-in-chief of The Daily Aztec. I earned an A.A. in Journalism at Southwestern College in 2016. At SWC, I was the assistant arts editor and assistant news editor of the National College Newspaper of the Year, 2015-2016, The SWC Sun. I was also a bi-weekly beer columnist at San Diego CityBeat Magazine, an alt-weekly with a circulation of 50,000, from 2015-2018. I served for 10 years in the U.S. Navy, including tours on the USS Kitty Hawk out of Yokosuka, Japan and the USS Ronald Reagan in San Diego, California. Between the Navy and college, I worked as a field service engineer for Innovative Product Achievements, installing and servicing automated linen management systems in hospitals nationwide. I had the opportunity to learn LINUX programming and networking before deciding to return to school to transition my career into journalism.
