I'm an experienced newsroom leader, editor, educator and digital journalist with more than a decade of experience leading digital and social media teams in the areas of content creation and audience development.Beginning in 2005, I spent the majority of my career working my way toward senior leadership at the South Florida Sun Sentinel, my hometown newspaper and a place I dreamed of working since my childhood.In addition to leading breaking news coverage of hurricanes, mass shootings and other major stories, I also guided SunSentinel.com through a period of sustained audience and digital subscriber growth. This success was driven by a reliance on data-driven decision-making, and included initiative like a tripling of the newsroom's email newsletter offerings, which those offerings focused on content areas that either showed strong traffic potential or indicated higher-than-average subscriber conversion rates. Additionally, I played a key role in implementing "The New Digital," a top-to-bottom recalibration of newsroom workflows designed to prioritize digital production, instill a sense of ownership in digital products across the newsroom and develop a robust digital skill set in all members of the newsroom staff. In 2015 I was selected to attend the Sun Sentinel's Leadership Training for Managers seminar, a series of workshops for select managers identified by company leadership as future executive leaders. The seminar included hands-on training sessions, cross-departmental networking with fellow managers and regular one-on-one mentoring meetings with company executives. During my career at the Sun Sentinel I also spent time on the product development team, conceiving, developing and launching new verticals in the areas of entertainment, parenting and health, as well as edited key beats including transportation, health, and climate and the environment.
