Claim your profileI'm an Africa-focused journalist who writes about sustainability and equality issues through the lens of money and power for Bloomberg News. From as young as 11, I've used storytelling to inform and surprise people. This passtime has evolved into a 16-year career over the span of which I've written for The Associated Press, Reuters, Oxford Business Group, The Guardian UK, British Airways' Highlife Magazine, Slate Afrique, and The New Humanitarian. I've also contributed to NPR, Good Morning Ireland, CBS and France 24. Journalism has gifted me with management and teaching experiences as well. I've led the editoral teams of two literary magazines; Baobab, based in Montreal, and Farafina, based in Lagos, and ran Bloomberg's West and Central African bureau, covering 20 countries for three years (2020-2023). I've also taught financial journalism workshops in Abidjan and Dakar (in French) for a Bloomberg initiative that's trained hundreds of African reporters over the past decade, helping them sharpen their business and economic coverage. These days, I devote my time to interviewing a wide range of experts and sharing their knowledge in ways everyone can understand, with a personal interest in infusing African perspectives into the global discourse. Sometimes, I'll switch things up by having those conversations on-stage as a boubou-wearing panel moderator. But I'm invariably looking to break news or explain complex issues, so hit me up with tips or for a good chat on sustainability and equality trends more investors and decision-makers should know about at yibukun at bloomberg dot net.Photo credits/Profile: Gerard Nartey/Background (cropped): Cocoa farmer in Ivory Coast by Andrew Caballero-Reynolds for Bloomberg.
