Claim your profileHello! My name is Tyler Roney and I am currently a meteorologist in Sioux Falls, South Dakota at Dakota News Now. I have been a broadcast meteorologist for 13 years and counting!I have always loved weather ever since I was a kid. I grew up watching the Weather Channel and would be fascinated by storms and growing up in Iowa we got all 4 seasons and then some! I followed my dreams to Iowa State University (Go Cyclones!) where I graduated and got my degree.I started working in Mason City, Iowa at KIMT-TV. I worked my way up from a weekend meteorologist to a Chief Meteorologist. I worked there from 2011-2018. Ever since 2018, I have worked at KDLT in Sioux Falls which merged in January 2020 with KSFY to become Dakota News Now. The best part about my job is that every day is something different. Each day provides a new opportunity at a challenge in the forecasting world. Communication is one of the biggest skills when it comes to the news industry and not only do I get the opportunity to do that on a broadcasting level, but I also get to do that on a digital level as well. Social media is an entire new way for people that aren't active viewers of local news to still tune into your product. Storytelling is another big skill that I get to utilize on a daily basis as we have multiple weather hits a day that we must convey the forecast in a clear and concise manner. My goal is to continue to focus on the broadening of the digital landscape of weather and being able to reach more of an audience through online platforms so that people are able to still get up to date information when it comes to not only a forecast but a severe weather situation to help keep people safe.
