Claim your profileDr Tessa Richards qualified in medicine and worked full time in the NHS for ten years specialising in general medicine and rheumatology, obtaining MRCP and MRCGP before joining the BMJ as an assistant editor in 1981. At the BMJ her editorial activities included running General Practice, Education, and Analysis sections of the journal. She retained sessions in clinical and general practice prior to the onset of adrenal cancer in 2004 for which she has had repeated treatment/surgery and has stoked her interest in patient advocacy and the importance of patient partnership in healthcare. She has three children.
