Claim your profileTerry Underhill is an experienced radio professional who’s worked in UK Radio for many years. His career began at Liverpool’s Radio City at the age of 17. At 22 he became breakfast show presenter on Wrexham and Chester’s Marcher Sound. At the age of 27 he became breakfast presenter at Signal Radio. Eight years later he returned to the enlarged Marcher Radio Group as Programme Director. In 2000, Terry was appointed Programme Director and breakfast show host at Real Radio in Cardiff. The station was the first GMG radio station and became the UK’s most successful station to launch in regional radio history. In 2003, Terry was appointed Programme Director and breakfast presenter for GMG’s Real Radio Yorkshire. During his time in Yorkshire, Terry oversaw a successful news and sports service that went on to win numerous industry awards. In 2008 Terry was promoted to the role of Group Head of Music for Real Radio and Smooth Radio, he moved to GMG’s head office in Manchester. Terry was part of the launch team for GMG’s Smooth Radio and in 2009 became a regular presenter on Smooth Radio across the UK. He was the first person on air when the station launched nationally. In October 2011, Terry was appointed Group Programme Director for UTV. He led the programming team to record breaking audiences and the group of stations went on to win many awards. UTV Radio was acquired by News UK in 2017 and he continued in the role of Group PD until August 2020. News UK local stations were acquired by Bauer Media UK in 2019 and in September 2020 the role of Group PD ended. Terry was then asked by Bauer to present the breakfast show at the their first regional station in Wales, Greatest Hits Radio, South Wales, this continued until March 2023. Terry Underhill is an accomplished interviewer and audio documentary maker, specialising in high-profile music stars. His subjects over the years included George Michael, Elton John, Phil Collins, Robbie Williams, Gary Barlow, Michael Bublé, Gloria Estefan, Sting, Jon Bon Jovi, Harry Connick Jnr, Bryan Ferry, Mick Jagger, Rod Stewart, The Bee Gees (Barry and Robin Gibb), Duffy, Bryan Adams, Boy George, Paul McCartney, Shakira, Nelly Furtado, Adele, Barry Manilow, Enrique Iglesias, Leona Lewis, Jake Shears, Tom Jones, Kylie Minogue, Shirley Bassey and many others.In September 2023 Terry joined the BBC and was appointed Executive Editor of BBC Radio Northampton and Three Counties Radio. In October 2023 he was appointed Executive Editor of BBC Radio Cambridgeshire, BBC Radio Norfolk and BBC Radio Suffolk.
