I have had the privilege of working in newsrooms around the world doing exactly that. After winning a student scholarship I cut my teeth at CBC Vancouver, working on the local supperhour and evening programs reporting and delivering live hits. I eventually helped launch a primetime bulletin helmed by Ian Hanomansing on CBC News Network as a live breaking-news host, telling Canadian audiences about daily developments in Asia. I also filled-in on the anchor desk.My interest in global politics led me to take a sabbatical from the newsroom to pursue a masters degree at the London School of Economics. I examined Canadian news media framing of the CNOOC-Nexen deal in 2013 and how China has been able to pursue an aggressive course of economic growth in liberal states despite rejecting liberal value systems. My passion for the region led me to work for China Central Television (CCTV, now known as CGTN) in Beijing. I traveled the vast country as a features reporter exploring a wide array of subjects including:-safety at the fireworks capital of the world (Liuyang)-training camp for female bodyguards as the wealthy look for inconspicuous forms of protection (Sanya) -growth of African students eager to study TCM (Beijing)I am now based in Singapore, working for Mediacorp's CNA (Channel NewsAsia) network. Since joining I have fronted hundreds of hours of live news bulletins, packaged original stories and interviewed experts, analysts and celebrities. I currently co-host the flagship morning program Asia First and afternoon Asia Now bulletins while also hosting/producing the 'CNA Correspondent' podcast where we go behind the scenes with network journalists across the region.Highlights of my work at CNA include-Exclusive one-on-one interview with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken (July 2024)-Live coverage of Ecosperity (June 2023) interviewing nearly a dozen guests over two days-On-air during breaking news: announcement of eligible candidates for SG's presidential election (2023), start of the Myanmar coup (Feb 2021) and Trump-Kim summit in Singapore (2018)-Political interviews: Former NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Australian Deputy PM Richard Marles and UN Special Rapporteur for Myanmar Tom Andrews -Cultural interviews: singer Charlie Puth, entrepreneur Gary Vaynerchuk and fashion designer Jason Wu -Podcasts covering: childcare center massacre in Thailand, monster wedding industry in India and dying single in Korea
