Claim your profile* Steve Ranson is a past president of both the International Society of Weekly Newspaper Editors and Nevada Press Association’s board of directors. He was honored in September 2024 with induction into the Nevada Newspaper Hall of Fame. He retired as editor of the Lahontan Valley News in Fallon, Nevada on Aug. 1, 2017, but he is still writing articles on military affairs to include Honor Flight Nevada, Nevada Veterans Coalition and the Nevada Department of Veterans Services. * During his tenure as editor, the LVN won more than 170 international, national and state press awards. The NPA named him a co-Journalist of the Year in 2012 and for having the state’s Editorial of the Year for all newspaper circulation divisions in 2014. * Since 2014, Ranson has been a member of the Churchill Entrepreneurial Development Association (CEDA). He is a lifetime member of the National Guard Association of the U.S. (Nevada) and a member of the American Legion, Military Officers Association of America (MOAA), and Military Reporters and Editors (MRE). As a civilian journalist, Ranson covers both Naval Air Station Fallon and the National Guard, and he embedded with Nevada Army National Guard units in Afghanistan twice — in November 2011 and November 2012. In January 2023, he accompanied a Nevada National Guard group led by the state's adjutant general to Romania to visit the 137th MP Company. Before his appointment as editor, Ranson served as sports editor for two newspapers, and also spent the majority of his 28 years in the Nevada Army National Guard and U.S. Army Reserve-Panama in public affairs, visual information, commander of state headquarters, interim commander (twice) of the 106th Public Affairs Det., and battalion adjutant (soldier support, human resources, records, basic finance). He retired as a lieutenant colonel.
