Claim your profileI am dedicated and passionate about working with writers and radio journalists to produce strong narrative journalism for radio and digital platforms. I bring excellent organization, communication, strategy and planning to every project. My experience as a newsroom leader and editor in public radio along with nearly 20 years as a journalist gives me a unique perspective to help you assess newsroom challenges and opportunities as well as to guide reporters. My journalism specialities lie in environmental policy, specifically reporting stories that explore our connections to, and impact on the natural world. Climate change, federal lands, and archeology are specific interests. I also have a strong interest in health journalism including how the built environment effects our well being. I am the Supervising Climate Editor at NPR and previously a professor of practice at Arizona State University's Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication where I lead environment reporting in the school's professional program, Cronkite News. I also served as interim managing editor for Side Effects Public Media, a public health reporting collaboration in the Midwest, and was a Ted Scripps Environmental Journalism Fellow and a former International Reporting Project fellow. PRNDI, the Society of Environmental Journalists, RTDNA, Idaho Press Club and many others have recognized my reporting. I was honored to receive a National Edward R. Murrow for Investigative Journalism, and I led a public radio newsroom in Idaho that received its first ever National Murrow for best website in a small market. Specialties: Editing for digital and audio. Newsroom leadership. Strategic planning. Radio reporting and audio production. Photography.I served as two years as board president for the Society of Environmental Journalists and currently a board member and ex-officio president.
