I was a WSJ correspondent in Brazil and worked for Brazilian local media in the past. Here is some background: I've been a reporter since 1981 and have covered mostly business and the economy. I grew up in Brazil, a country that has seen it all: Hyperinflation, deep recession, high unemployment, credit default, runs to the bank and more, most of which I covered working at local outlets. I began working as a reporter in my high-school years and never stopped. In 1998, I took a job as a translator at The Wall Street Journal, a position that took me to a deep dive on the Internet bubble burst, the Enron debacle, 9/11 and the financial crisis. In 2013, I moved from New Jersey to Brasília to work as a WSJ correspondent writing about monetary policy, Amazon deforestation, environment protection, corruption, politics and more. In 2020, I returned to New York to cover U.S. bond markets for Dow Jones Newswires. I am married and have a daughter. I can write in both English and Portuguese and can read in and translate from Spanish. Besides work, I enjoy playing guitar and reading the classics, or simply binge-watching Netflix series with my family.
