As a recent college graduate, I am excited to enter the world of journalism. Early in my life I developed an interest in writing, particularly creative writing. Overtime, as I gained an interest in public affairs, current events and politics, I found journalism to be a natural fit for me.I graduated from the University of Wyoming with a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism with a focus in New Media in May 2017.I spent the summers of 2015 and 2016 interning at the Green River Star. At the Star, I was responsible for covering the Green River City Council meetings, local primary election news and results, community events and community news. I was also responsible for taking photos for photo pages, designing ads, and writing columns and feature stories.While interning with the Green River Star, I was successful in shining a light on interesting people and happenings in the community. I was also successful in building a rapport with local government officials.During my four years as a college student, I took several courses that educated me, inspired me, and gave me unique experiences to take with me into my career. These include several journalistic courses such as Community Journalism, Intro to Communication Research, Mass Media Ethics, Online Journalism, a Feature Writing Seminar, Mass Media and Society and Intro to Photography.In addition, I took a few courses outside of Journalism that I think will be valuable to my career. These include: Middle East Religions, History of North American Indians, Intro to African American Studies, Cross Cultural Communication, and Intro to LGBTQ Studies. Understanding the theories included in these discourses, as well as knowing the history of issues in our society, will allow me to report on issues with a deeper understanding and more accuracy when informing the public.Specialties: Online Media, Print Media, Public Affairs Reporting, Human Interest Stories
