Dr. Burton is founder and editor-in-chief of the award-winning website, The Burton Wire, a news blog covering news of the African Diaspora. An expert on the intersection of race, class, gender, sexuality with film, media and technology, the thought leader has contributed to CNN, Huffington Post, The Grio, The New York Times and USA Today. Nsenga consults on issues of diversity, equity and inclusion with Fortune 500 companies, non-profits and educational institutions. Dr. Burton is a former editor-at-large for The Root, inaugural editor-in-chief for HealthPlus, a digital first magazine addressing health disparities, editor-at-large for NNPA/Black Press USA Newswire's and current guest editor for American Theatre's Theatre Futures project. Dr. Burton’s content appears in more than 200 print papers weekly reaching 20 million readers per week and more than 2 million people online daily. Dr. Burton is a well-known commentator on radio, TV, and new media having recently appeared on WABE 90.1 FM (NPR), The Dr. Phil Show and CourtTV. Dr. Burton hosts a livestream series for NNPA/Black Press USA and is a contributor to the Black Executive Podcast. Nsenga is the former Southeast Regional Director of the HUxPNC National Center for Entrepreneurship and Executive Director of the National Association of Multicultural Digital Entrepreneurs., two-time co-chair of the Black Caucus of the Society for Cinema and Media Studies and former chair of the Atlanta Youth Commission. A career academician and tenured professor, Dr. Burton has served as chair of the department of Communication and Media Studies at Goucher College, interim chair of Mass Media Arts at Johnson C. Smith University and chair of Mass Media Arts at Clark Atlanta University. She is currently a member of the Online News Association, National Communication Association, American Studies Association, Society for Cinema and Media Studies, NAACP Image Awards Nominating Committee, the Greater Metropolitan Atlanta Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Women in Film and Television Atlanta, Northwestern University’s Council of 100 and a life member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. Dr. Burton is the current Director of Communications for the League of Women Voters Georgia. Dr. Burton holds degrees from Northwestern University (B.S. Radio/TV/Film Production), New York University (M.A.), University of Pennsylvania (M.A. ) and the University of Southern California (Ph.D.).
