Claim your profileNidia Cavazos is a CBS News campaign reporter who covered Vice President Harris and the Latino vote for the 2024 general election. Her reporting appears across all programs and platforms for CBS News.Nidia has criss-crossed the country covering the vice president, first as President Biden’s running mate and then as the Democratic presidential nominee. Early in the election cycle, Nidia covered Nikki Haley on the campaign trail and provided coverage in the lead up to the GOP primaries and Super Tuesday. Prior to moving to an English-language network, Nidia was a national correspondent for Univision based in Houston, Texas, reporting on the state and southern region. Her reporting spanned from immigration coverage on both sides of the U.S.-Mexico border, to mass shootings, including Uvalde and Allen, as well as natural disasters ranging from tornadoes in Louisiana to hurricanes in Florida. Nidia reported on the Supreme Court’s overturning of Roe v. Wade from Texas, one of the first states to implement restrictive abortion bans. During peak inflation rates, Nidia also covered the economic impact on the ground and its effect on Latino communities. Nidia’s career began during the early years of former President Trump’s administration, where she focused on the impacts of his immigration and border policies, including Zero Tolerance, Remain in Mexico, and Title 42 during the Covid-19 pandemic. Throughout those years, Nidia reported live from hospital units as Latinos were disproportionately impacted by the pandemic. Nidia is trilingual (English, Spanish, and Mandarin) with prior international reporting in Mexico City and Shanghai. Her immigration reporting has received a national Emmy award, an Edward R. Murrow award, several national Emmy nominations, and multiple regional Emmy wins in Texas.
