Claim your profileI'm stoked to announce my new book, SURFING SISTERHOOD HAWAI‘I: WAHINE RECLAIMING THE WAVES, will be published by Mutual Publishing of Honolulu in June. A lifelong surfer, I was born and raised in Honolulu, where I now reside with my husband and fellow writer Don Wallace, after we lived and worked as journalists in New York City for 27 years.SURFING SISTERHOOD HAWAI‘I grew out of the surfing and ocean lifestyle columns I wrote as a features staff reporter for the Honolulu Star-Advertiser and have continued to contribute as a freelance sports writer since April 2022, when I resigned from full-time employment to pursue several book projects. I'm proud to have checked one of them off the list!An editor and widely published writer on culture and the arts, surfing and ocean lifestyles, politics, women's rights, the environment, health and green consumer choices , I have also managed communications and publications for environmental non-profit organizations. I was editor-in-chief of The Green Guide, an award-winning, national environmental newsletter, and co-founded TheGreenGuide.com, which was acquired by National Geographic in 2007.My previous book, which grew out of my green living experience at The Green Guide, was DO ONE GREEN THING: SAVING THE EARTH WITH SIMPLE, EVERYDAY CHOICES (St. Martin's, 2010, foreward by Meryl Streep),Before joining the newspaper, I led Honolulu Weekly as editor in chief and was creative and communications director for The Harris Agency in Honolulu, where I enjoyed writing scripts for television and radio commercials, working on media relations and branding for clients--skills I am now tapping to promote SURFING SISTERHOOD HAWAI‘I.
