Claim your profileMelanie Bencosme is an Emmy Award-winning journalist and filmmaker with a decade of experience developing, directing, and producing compelling stories highlighting the people and ideas changing our world. Her work has been featured on Hulu, FX, The New York Times, NBC News, MSNBC, NBC Nightly News, and BET and recognized by the Gracie Awards, The Newswomen’s Club of New York, the Sigma Delta Chi Awards, the National Press Photographers Awards, the Los Angeles Film Awards, and in film festivals in New York and California. Melanie co-produced the Emmy and Gracie Award-winning The New York Times Presents: Malfunction: The Dressing Down of Janet Jackson, which examined the infamous incident that impacted Janet Jackson’s career, and the Emmy-nominated documentary The New York Times Presents: Framing Britney Spears, which sparked a cultural reckoning around the treatment of Ms. Spears by the media and the public. She also directed, produced, and filmed the award-winning short The Last Doctors, which followed the lives of three women in a Texas medical examiner’s office after a school shooting. Passionate about amplifying the voices of marginalized and underrepresented communities, Melanie brings a thoughtful and innovative approach to storytelling. She earned her Master’s degree in International Journalism from the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism in 2014. She constantly explores new storytelling techniques to enhance her work and collaborate with diverse, creative teams.
